1k LB Towing Capacity?

Reading this article from Kelley Blue Book, I noticed the stats about the Slate truck. It mentioned a 1,000 lb towing capacity. What do folks think about towing with an electric truck? I seem to have the idea that towing with an electric truck is a non starter, but I'm happy to learn that perhaps that's not the case?

You just have to have the right expectations. Towing with any EV is going to dramatically reduce range, 1,000 lb is rather limited for a truck.
But it's a $27,000 electric truck, so you shouldn't expect to be towing heavy loads.
The real world range probably also depends in large part on the trailer, a low enclosed streamlined trailer would probably do a lot better than a square box utility trailer. It will probably do fine towing a piece of rental equipment from the local home depot/lowes/other, as long as it's under the weight limit, rather than also renting a truck to tow it.

1,000 lb? that's super low, even for electrics, most EV trucks can tow way more.

Your idea that EV towing is a 'nonstarter' is understandable, mostly due to range anxiety when pulling heavy loads. Towing does significantly reduce EV range.

However, for that 1,000 lbs, an electric truck would be brilliant: instant torque, smooth, quiet.
For heavier stuff, it's about trip planning and charging infrastructure. It's not impossible, just different. The tech is getting better fast, so the 'non starter' idea is quickly becoming outdated for many scenarios!

Yeah I'm assuming the situation will be: "tow up to 1000lbs, but know your range will be severely reduced. I will probably take camping stuff and bikes, so I'm not too worried about it, but I did think it was interesting.

Yeah, those are all valid points. I'd say for simple jobs like moving bikes or stuff, it looks like it can totally handle it, you just have to think about it differently than you would about regular trucks
