How to safely simulate heavy load conditions

When my Slate finally arrives, I want to put it to the test in real-world conditions before I count on it for actual jobs.

What’s the best way to safely simulate towing, payload, and heavy use without pushing the truck to its limits the hard way when I really need it to perform?

Start easy and build up, kick things off with half the maximum payload and drive local routes while keeping an eye on battery drain and temps. Gradually increase the weight. The same goes for towing, try a small trailer first before attaching the maximum load for a long trip. Baby steps can help you avoid big problems down the line.

Find a nearby hill and run it loaded several times, monitoring battery temperature, power delivery, and regenerative braking on the descent. Hills quickly show weaknesses and help avoid getting stranded far from home during a job.

Fill the bed with concrete blocks or sandbags to safely test payload capacity close to home.
It’s simple to adjust the weight, and if something doesn’t feel right, you won’t be stuck miles away with a load you can’t manage.
Controlled testing is a smarter choice than finding out the hard way when money’s involved.

Take short test runs with increasing loads before diving into full-day work. Keep track of range loss per mile with different weights. This gives you real insights into what your truck can genuinely handle compared to the optimistic specs on paper.
