With Slate trucks still in pre-production, what kind of reliability hiccups do you think we might see with the first generation? I can’t help but wonder if there are any takeaways from other electric vehicle rollouts that could give us a heads-up on what to expect

Since the Slate Truck is an early version EV, it might have a few reliability problems at first, mostly because it was developed so fast. Looking at how other EVs were launched, we might see some issues with how the battery is managed, software errors, and how long parts last.

Also, watch out for how the car handles heat and keeps its sensors in check. Older EVs can have issues with their cooling and sometimes their driver-assistance sensors aren't lined up right. This can mess with how well the car runs and how safe it is.

I'd say the early reliability issues would center on the new tech and the assembly process. Expect finicky software glitches with the infotainment or phone-as-key, and mechanical hiccups with the novel truck features like power tonneau covers or complex air suspension. Even the auxiliary 12-volt battery is a frequent early EV failure point.. It's the cost of being an early adopter.
