Chatted with my cousin who reserved a Slate the same day I did and our numbers are way off. Has anyone cracked the code on how these are ordered

From what people have pieced together, it doesn't seem to be strictly first come, first served, I think location, trim, or even dealer allocation might be factoring in, but nothing official has ever been confirmed

Appreciate you sharing community theories that make more sense than a simple timeline. The trim level influencing the number's interesting since my cousin and I ordered different ones. Has the forum noticed if 1 particular trim creates a bigger jump in the reservation sequence?

Trim isn't even asked for when you make a reservation. The "maker" part of the site just lets you see what options would look like, and they have other options planned.
When you go to reserve, that's completely separate: only asks for your contact info and payment.
I'm sure the reservation number is just the SL8 and the next 12 digits are a hash that might include a sequential number or timestamp, but it's going to be completely indecipherable.

This completely changes how I was looking at the number sequence. If most of the number is just an indecipherable hash, then the mystery of the large gap between our numbers gets even more confusing.

I understand how people are getting excited about the release, but as I understood it, the reservation number itself isn't a direct indicator of your spot in line for production. It seems to be a non-sequential, unique identifier for your reservation. Though, I've also read people speculating that it might include the date or a regional code.. But anyway, I think it's just really a reference, not a queue position, and the best way is just to keep an eye on official updates!

My cousin and I have officially given up trying to decode them and will just have to be patient for official news. 🤣

ikr, it's odd that it's not first come, first served. but, it's important to remember that the reservation is just a place in a soft queue that the company reserves the right to re sort.
your cousin might have simply picked a combination of features or a color/trim that they are batch producing first. the only number that matters is your final delivery slot once they confirm your specific build
