You took a chance on the charger map, brought way too many snacks, and hoped the range guess was accurate. And you made it!

What surprised you the most? Was it the charging stops, the unexpected range drops, the curious stares, or that first peaceful stretch of highway?

I was honestly shocked by how much a headwind impacted the range compared to a tailwind. Same highway, but going in opposite directions showed a 30% difference in efficiency. Plus, I was surprised at how many charging stations were either broken or occupied by someone taking a two-hour lunch. Trip planning apps are constantly misleading about availability.

Range anxiety turned out to be exaggerated for highway driving, but it was definitely a concern in the mountains. Uphills drained the battery way more than I expected, but downhill regen helped. I also found that fast chargers can vary a lot, some actually deliver what they promise, while others are painfully slow, even if they claim the same specs. Real-world experience definitely beats what the apps suggest

The quietness was the strangest part. Driving on long highways without engine noise felt surreal at first. I also got way more questions at charging stops than I do at gas stations, everyone’s still curious about EVs.
