I work in auto repair, and I see how over complicated, poor quality electronics kill modern cars every day. I’ve stuck with my 2006 Tacoma because it’s bulletproof, but the tech in newer trucks honestly worries me for long term reliability.
the Slate truck and its simple design have caught my eye, but it’s still packed with electronics
my big concern is that it’ll face the same software glitches and hardware failures I see in my shop

that said, Slate using off the shelf components is a huge plus for durability and repairs. Plus, with so many prototypes in testing, maybe they’ll actually iron out the bugs before production starts.
am I being too much of a negative, or is there reason to be optimistic about Slate's electrical reliability?

Totally understand your concerns, I’ve held onto older rigs for the same reasons. But honestly Slate’s decision to keep things simple and use off-the-shelf parts gives me a bit of hope. Fewer custom black boxes usually means fewer headaches down the line

You’re not being negative, you’re just being realistic.
I see the same tech issues, but Slate’s straightforward approach feels refreshing.
If they can actually wrap up testing before shipping and steer clear of overly complicated software,
this could be one of those rare modern trucks that actually ages well.

Shared those same worries, especially after seeing newer trucks turn into nothing but error codes on wheels. But Slate’s focus on reliable components and thorough prototype testing seems promising. Sure, it’s still electronics, but at least it feels like they considered repairability from the start.
